CSS Animation

July, 16, 2015 | CSS

CSS Animation is the new thing. Three years ago I was knee deep in it and even wrote an article about it along with a downloadable demo. My reason for not pressing on with this is quite simple. Back in 07 when I decided to forgo graphic design and pursue front-end development, I was (and I say this with a straight face) a Flash designer.

It’s kind of hard to be in awe of CSS and Javascript animations, when they pale in comparison to an obsolete application.  Flash started falling out of favor as early as 2009 and for good reasons. The number of hideous websites with atrocious color combinations and stupid animations were staggering. Security concerns was perhaps the main catalyst behind the demise of my former number one money maker.  The final nail in the coffin was the smartphone revolution, which predates the public tongue lashing Jobs served up regarding Adobe Flash. Apple would not allow adobe’s flash player near its new money generator, the iPhone.

I’m over it now and have been for quite a while. Truth is, I’m better without Flash. I did waste a great deal of time learning Actionscript instead of Php and it cost me. Regardless, doing animation is like taking a stroll down memory lane. Physically, it’s impossible. Figuratively, it can only stir up fond memories…
